- Georgia ranks 10th in the nation for the highest levels of CO2 pollution from power plants, with more than 81 million tons emitted annually.Georgia Power's plants Bowen and Scherer rank 1st and 2nd in the top 50 power plants in the country for most CO2 pollution respectively.
- Georgia ranks high in the nation for health impacts CAUSED by fine particle pollution from power plants: #11 for total deaths (946), #11 for hospitalizations (837), #11 for heart attacks (1,352)
- Atlanta ranks 7th in the nation for deaths, hospitalizations, and heart attacks from fine particulates caused by power plants
- According to the Energy Information Administration, in 2002 GA's electricity came from: 40 % coal, 36% other fossil fuels, 12% nuclear, 11% hydroelectric, and 1% other renewable ( click for source PDF)

Georgia Students for Sustainability was formed after the First Annual GreenPeach Student Renewable Energy Gathering in Athens, Ga held in the fall of 2006. The group was created as a way for Georgia Student Environmental, Justice, and Clean Energy Organizations both on and off the college and university campus setting to network and work together in the opposition of dirty energy development in the state, and in support of campus and community clean energy/energy efficiency initiatives.
- the state has instituted a "No-Tillage Assistance Program," which leases no-till equipment to farmers who want to try this carbon-friendly tillage practice but find the start-up costs difficult to meet.
